Introduction to Final Fantasy IX
The story of Final Fantasy IX takes place in a world known as Gaia (for FF I players, you may remember this as the name of a town). This world is divided into four huge nations. The main character, Zidane Tribal, comes from the kingdom of Linblum, lead by Regent Cid. Princess Garnet, another main character, is from the kingdom of Alexandria.
The main story of Final Fantasy IX revolves around Queen Brahne, the mother of Princess Garnet. When Brahne turns to evil practices, Garnet turns to fight alongside Zidane and her loyal bodyguard, Adelbert Steiner. As the story progresses, Queen Brahne gains control over the world's Black Mages, all except for one: VIVI Ornitier. Also important to the story is that Final Fantasy IX, unlike VII and VIII, takes place in medieval times rather than in the future. The theme of magical crystals also returns in Final Fantasy IX.
